Dame Sarah Storey has won her second gold medal of the 2015 Para-cycling World Championships with a comfortable victory in the road race in a time of one hour, 44 minutes and 45 seconds The 37-year-old, who also finished first in the time trial on Thursday, attacked on the opening lap to collect her 17th cycling world title in Nottwil, Switzerland.
Storey quickly made her intentions clear, as she attacked during the first of four laps of the 15.5km course, to finish 8 minutes and 24 seconds ahead of Poland's Anna Harkowska. Despite one rider trying to follow Storey, the race turned into another time trial for the defending world champion as she recorded her 22nd World Championship title (after previously winning five as a swimmer).
After the win Storey said, "It was one of those races that could easily have been a totally different race. After about a kilometre, I could feel riders on my back wheel and there was a clatter of carbon behind me. I decided that’s it I’m not sitting in the bunch anymore. I just stretched it out and just kept pushing and looked round and thought this is a decent gap so I pressed on and the gap quickly opened up."
