Great Britian's Hannah Cockroft won the gold medal in the T34 100m, successfully defending the title she won at London 2012. Wheelchair racer Cockroft, who has cerebral palsy, finished ahead of fellow Brit Kare Adenegan, with the fifteen year old winning the silver medal.
Cockroft set a new Paralympic record of 17.43 seconds as she finished well clear of the rest of the field. After getting her customary quick start, Cockroft powered away to open up a gap of several lengths over her nearest competition.
The win gives Cockroft her third Paralympic gold medal after success in the T34 100m and 200m four years ago.
